After hearing news about Erik Keedus season ending injury, missing key players Sten Sokk, Isaiah Briscoe, Cedric Simmons and Gregor Arbet, everybody thought this will be a piece of cake game for Euroleague powerhouse CSKA, but the seven healthy guys and the team thought otherwise as they pushed the visitors to their limit and at the end CSKA managed to escape with 105:95 (46:54) but the performace put out there by Kalev players was a joy to watch.
With only six players (Madis Soodla was healthy but did not get minutes), Kristjan Kangur and Bojan Subotic led the way with 20 points, while Mirkovic had 17, Dorbek 16 and Jõesaar 14 points and 8 rebounds. Fun fact all the guards played 40 minutes.
CSKA who played with 11 players, had Othello Hunter as their leading scorer with 18 and Vitaly Fridzon with 17 points. CSKA won the rebounds 37:27, shot 74% close range shots and made 14/36 from the deep (against our 9/22). Kalev had 40 free-throws from which they made 34. CSKA also recorded their season high turnovers – 19.
When in past seasons, Kalev had only managed to win 5 quarters in 8 games against CSKA then this season they managed to win 4 quarters in 2 games, too bad it didn’t help to get a historic victory. But today it is clear that Kalev/Cramo will not make the play-offs this season.
