BC Kalev/Cramo’s tight schedule continued in VTB as they visited Krasnodar Lokomotive-Kuban and broke the 10 game curse as they got a historic win, defeating the hosts 85:80.
After losing the game and two crucial players in Ivan Almeida and Kristjan Kangur on Wednesday against VEF meant that Kalev had only nine players. Kristjan Kitsing made a three to start the game and with 8 minutes to go had a unexpected 14 point lead which unfortunately was cut down by a 8:0 run in the final minutes of the quarter and the teams went into the break with a 27:21 lead for the visitors.
Second quarter was a hard fought game and the hosting team cut down the deficit a little bit more and Kalev led at the half-time 51:48. Six fouls in the third quarter made it tough for Kalev but thanks to four three point shots the team went into the final quarter with a three point lead. The Estonian club started the last quarter the same as they finished the third quarter with a made three and some fouls. In the end great defense by Kalev and missed threes by Lokomotive decided the game. A historic 85:80 (27:21, 24:27, 22:22, 12:10) win against Lokomotive was a fact.
Playing with eight players (Madis Soodla did not play), Chavaughn Lewis finished with 21 points and 7 assists, Janari Jõesaar added 15 and both Kitsing and Mirkovic had 14 points. Dmitry Kulagin had a game high 22 points for the hosts.
This was their second win of the season to go with four losses which puts Kalev on the 11th spot in the rankings, while Lokomotive-Kuban has 3 wins and 2 losses and are sitting on the fifth spot.
