BC Kalev/Cramo made a nice present for all the fathers and fathers to be as they got their first win in VTB league against Astana in Kalevi Spordihall. Thanks to the help of the newest addition Isaiah Briscoe, BC Kalev/Cramo defeated BC Astana 83:73 (45:36).
Briscoe who started from the bench finished his first European game with 20 points (7/11) 5 rebounds and 6 assists while demonstrating great skills in driving. Bojan Subotic had a nice game with 18 points while making 3/4 from the deep, Cedric Simmons and Branko Mirkovic finished with 11 points. Fun fact, Mirkovic has now scored more than 1000 points in VTB league.
Justin Carter had 21 points for Astana. Kalev made 56% of their shots including 10 of 21 from the deep meanwhile the opponents only shot 40% from the field. Kalev lost the offensive rebounds 7:14 but taking into consideration the poor shooting percentage from the visitors. Astana is one of the top teams in offensive rebounds.
Kalev now has 1 win from six games, the same as Astana, VEF and Parma. Jenissey and our next opponent Nizni Novgorod has one win in 4 games.
After a 6:0 run in the first quarter, Kalev got a 11:5 lead and didn’t give it away the whole game. In the start of the second quarter, made threes from Subotic and Keedus gave Kalev a double-digit lead 28:17 after a few minutes later Sokk and Dorbek also made threes and Kalev had a nice 37:24 lead and went into the half with a nice double-digit lead.
The opponents tried to climb back in the third quarter and managed to cut the deficit down to 6 points but Briscoe rose and scored 10 points in a row with 3 minutes giving the home team a 64:52 lead.
During the half way mark of the fourth quarter, Kalev got stuck and let the opponents go on a 11:3 run which cut the deficit into single digits. But that was it the hosts recovered and took the good win. Kalev/Cramo will face Nizni Novgorod away next week.
