In their last VTB game of this year, BC Kalev/Cramo managed to put on a great show for the crowd with a great outcome! A tight 98:94 (52:54) win at home, before christmas. Branko Mirkovic had a nice outing with 27 points (6/10 from the deep), 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Isaiah Briscoe had 17, from where he had 9 points in the fourth quarter. Thomas van der Mars finished with a nice double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Out of their mind shooting helped VEF to hold them in the game, finishing with 19 made threes from 35!!! Alex Perez finished with 21 points (5/9 from the deep) and Corey Hawkins with 16 and 4/8 from the deep. VTB league record for made threes is 24 by Kuban.
Second win of the season raised Kalev to second to last at the league table. Permi Parma who is in the last play-off spot is three wins away. VTB United League continiues at 7th of january when they host Himki at home. Before that, they have four games at Alexela league.
The start of the game showed great promise for Kalev as they took a 18:12 lead in four minutes. VEF had only scored behind the arc and they didn’t hold back – Hawkins made three in a row and put VEF up 23:21. During the second quarter Kalev led the way until experienced Janicenoks made a three to help the visitors go to a 11-3 run but Kalev did not back down and cut down the seven point deficit to two before the half.
The third quarter was totally under control for the home team as we went on a 13:2 run which ended with a 3+1 one from Mirkovic. Going into the fourth Kalev held a 73:65 lead, but in the start of the fourth was huge for VEF as they made three threes in the first 100 seconds to cut the deficit down to two. Thanks to a made three from Jõesaar the lead was seven for the home team but VEF tightened their defense and in four minutes Kalev was held to zero points from the game, only points game from the free-throw line to keep a small lead during the game but VEF made shot after shot from behind the arc and a three from Perez but VEF up 89:88 in the final minutes bot thanks to a basket from Mars and a few made free-throws Kalev managed to hold on and take the important win.
Kalev were wonderful at the rebounds against one of the top rebounding team – they managed to take 17 offensive rebounds against the opponents 9 rebounds. Good shooting from Kalev as they made 12/26 behind the arc and a nice points from the free-throw line (22/29) were keys for the win.
