BC Kalev/Cramo scared CSKA

BC Kalev/Cramo showed quality play against European powerhouse Moscow CSKA with leading 86:85 with seven minutes in the final quarter. After which CSKA, who had won 8 of the last meetings, led by Will Clyburn and Sergio Rodriguez went on a 10:0 run which led to a 108:100 win for the hosts. The game was this seasons biggest scoring game so far, fun fact – last time CSKA let opponents score 100 points in was in 2015.

Leading both VTB League and Euroleague, CSKA gave minutes to all their healthy players with Sergio Rodriguez finished with 19 points, Corey Higgins added 18 points. For Kalev, Branko Mirkovic had a nice outing with 18 points and 9 assists, Cedric Simmons finished with 15, Isaiah Briscoe with 13 and Erik Keedus with 12 points. All the 11 players who played managed to score. Moscow CSKA continues undefeated with eight wins, Kalev has one win and seven losses which but them at the bottom of the league table.

The hosts managed to score 17 points from our turnovers against our 11 points. From free-throws CSKA had 28 against our 15. CSKA had a great shooting night with 60% from the field, making 12/23 behind the arc, we on the other hand made 52% of our shots including 11/24 from the deep.

In the tight first quarter the lead changed nine times while seven different players scored for BC Kalev/Cramo.  Thanks to baskets from van der Mars and Jõesaar Kalev took a 29:26 lead after a few minutes Dorbek scored making the lead 33:30. Vitali Fridzon made two threes and CSKA regained the lead 37:33. After Nikita Kurbanov scored and Kalev was down 47:40 – something nice happened, Kalev went on a 8:0 run and won the half 48:47.

Third quarter was similar to to the second – CSKA started 9:0 and took a 59:50 lead but Kalev did not give up 13:5 run gave Kalev a 78:74 lead going in to the fourth. With threes from Higgins and Rodriguez the score was tied with nine minutes to go, but Kalev had an answer – Gregor Arbet made two threes and with seven minutes to go Kalev had a one point lead. But CSKA didn’t hesitate and got a few nice baskets with Kalev not making their and the game was over.
