After a slightly shocking first half for Unics who only led by 9 points against BC Kalev/Cramo turned on the next gear in the second half and eased their way to a 104:78 (55:46) win. Bojan Subotic had 17 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists, Mirkovic added 15 points and 7 assists while Keedus and Dorbek both had 11 points. For the hosts, Melvin Ejim the MVP in Italy last season had 19 points (16 came in the first quarter) while Stephane Lasme added 15 and Joaquim Colom 12 points and 9 assists.
Six turnovers and a lousy 33% shooting percentage had BC Kalev/Cramo on the edge of the cliff after the first quarter (12:30) and it seemed like this game would end like a game against Unics a few years back when they won by 50. But thanks to a great second quarter Kalev managed to climb back and give the 2500 spectators and the hosts a little scare.
With four minutes, Kalev went on 18:5 run thanks to threes from Mirkovic, Keedus and twice by Subotic and the deficit was down to five points. Thanks to a good substitution by Joaquim Colon Unics took the half by nine points. Made threes by Ejim and Truškin grew the deficit to 15 in the first minutes of the second half and it stayed the same until the end of the quarter which saw Unics going to the final quarter with a 83:64 lead. The last quarter didn’t bring any surprises and Unics took the game. The hosts were feeling it – making 60% of their shots (including 12/24 from the deep). Despite other stats being equal the score wasn’t, thats the difference between a top team and a middle team in VTB…
In four days, on Monday to be exact we will host Permi Parma, who right now has one loss. That will be a game we really need to win.
